Karl is widely perceived to be responsible for putting millions of people into abject poverty and misery, the architect of the dreaded communisim.

But this is miguided to say the least. Communism is a political system not an economic system. Marx was in effect an economic historian who correctly predicted fundamental flaws in the capitalist economic model. Ironically, those responsible for putting theory into practice (praxis) were the individuals who caused the misery of millions: Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin, Castro, Putin (?). As Marx observed when looking at an early German political movement using his name: "If that's Marxism, then I'm not a Marxist".
